Pre-dinner entertainment with Gareth Malone

Gareth MaloneGareth Malone captured the imagination of the nation with two BBC documentaries which followed his progress in introducing a culture of singing into schools. In the second series, The Choir: Boy’s Don’t Sing, he went to Lancaster School in Leicester, an all-boys comprehensive well known for its sporting prowess - definitely not its singing – and helped a group of boys discover their voice.

Thursday evening's entertainment

Gareth will be leading the pre-dinner entertainment on Thursday evening. Be prepared for a very special performance!

After an application process we are please to announce that Gareth will be working with The Heartlands High School and their partner primary and special schools, St Mathews Primary School and Calthorpe Special School. Gareth and devising director Karen Gillingham will work with all three schools during the week of the conference, in preparation for a performance on Thursday evening during the pre dinner entertainment.

Gareth went to meet with the school at the end of September and everyone was very excited about the project, especially The Heartlands High School, as this statement from Leah Florence, music teacher at the school shows

‘We wouldn’t be joking if we said that we were literally dancing down the halls when Helen from the SSAT called to inform us that our school had been chosen to work with Gareth Malone for the National Conference in November.  The Heartlands High School is a small, but mighty, specialist sports college in the heart of Birmingham. Our students and staff thrive off our attitude that ‘we can’ do anything we put our minds, and more importantly, our hard work towards. We will all be working our hardest  to make the most of this experience and can’t wait to be seen and more importantly heard in November.'
