Sustainability Wiz
Visit the Studywiz stand to get a pre-release
preview of Sustainability Wiz - a new educational resource on
environmental sustainability for key stages 1 to 4. Designed to
support schools participating in long-term ecological projects,
Sustainability Wiz connects schools nationally and internationally
to enable best practice sharing and mentoring
capabilities.
Sustainable schools are defined by the DCSF
(Department for Children, Schools and Families) as those where
staff and pupils are guided by a commitment to care for oneself,
each other and the environment. Eight areas have been identified
for schools to focus on as they work towards sustainability: food
and drink, energy and water, travel and traffic, purchasing and
waste, buildings and grounds, inclusion and participation, local
well-being and global dimension.
Sustainability Wiz, developed by the Gould
Group (a three-time winner of the Allen Strom Eureka Prize,
Australia’s peak environmental education award and specialists in
environmental and wildlife education and training since 1909) and
Etech Group (makers of Studywiz), gives schools resources for
long-term sustainability and resource management projects.
Incorporating innovative features such as data bench marking,
interactive chat rooms, threaded discussions and drawing tools, its
use goes beyond a teaching tool allowing schools to develop their
own programmes to reduce their water and energy use, slashing waste
and increasing biodiversity.
Since receiving accreditation from Becta in
December 2007, Studywiz has taken the UK by storm, clinching
five local authority contracts including Barnsley Metropolitan
Borough Council, Slough Borough Council, Warwickshire County
Council, City of Edinburgh Council and Dudley Metropolitan Borough
Council.
