The Learning Machine - sustainability case study

What is the project?

New innovative QCA accredited qualifications in ICT endorsed by the Sector Skills Council.

Use of on-line results recording to reduce paper consumption.
Accredit learning that supports sustainable technological systems eg thin clients.
Inbuilt CPD linked to credit from the GTC TLA to develop teachers' knowledge and understanding of sustainable ICT systems.

What actions have you taken?

Develop website to manage and deliver certification. Get accredited as a new Awarding Body by QCA and gain endorsement from eskills. Train over 400 teachers as assessors and assessor trainers.
Provide on-line courses to support the qualifications using Moodle VLE to minimise use of paper.

What are the challenges?

Ensuring assessors and learners internalise the messages so they put their learning to practical use.
Weaning people off familiar technologies to systems that are more energy efficient.

What is next?

Planning for an Environment INGOT has already been submitted to the regulators. This will take the themes already present in the INGOT certificates to specific  units at Level 1 and Level 2 targeted on the National Curriculum environment theme using vocationally related ICT contexts as the focus.
