Pre-dinner entertainment with Tracy Edwards MBE

Wednesday night’s optional dinner gives delegates the opportunity to hear from a speaker who has been unrelenting in changing the ‘accepted’ way of doing things. Tracy Edwards rose to international fame in 1989 as the skipper of the first all-female crew to compete in the Whitbread Round the World Yacht Race. The crew of Maiden won two legs of the race and came second overall, changing forever the perception of women in yachting.

When her commission to create yachting events in Qatar ended in personal bankruptcy and being held in the country against her will, Tracy’s determination to make sure that the supporters of the project received what they were owed showed incredible fighting spirit. Having experienced both the upsides of winning and the devastation of taking a calculated risk that resulted in devastating failure, Tracy is eloquent and disarmingly open as a speaker, having lost none of the sparkle and humour that make her one of the most inspirational speakers you will hear.
