In staging the 15th National Conference, the SSAT and all its
partners committed to reducing the environmental impact of the
event as much as possible, including setting some meaningful
targets for energy reduction. We see this as in important step in
the journey to being a sustainable organisation. Our event partners
MMM, the International Convention Centre Birmingham and the British
Educational Suppliers Association have worked with us to make
changes across all event operations.

Exhibitors
Exhibitors have been encouraged to reduce the impact of their
involvement this year. This could involve printing fewer flyers,
using fewer computers on the stands or considering what sort of
freebies they bring along. We have also asked each exhibitor to
tell us what they've been doing in their organisation to become
more sustainable - read their case studies online.
What you can do
Avoid cars
Avoid taking trips in a car where you are the only passenger. If
walking - or public transport - is not an option, use the
conference car share scheme. Read more about the scheme.
Bring an old bag
Re-use last year’s conference satchel if you think you’ll need a
larger bag than the environmentally-friendly jute bags we’ll be
supplying.
Dispose of waste consciously
Look out for the recycling containers around the venue.
Minimise paper use
All delegates will be given a USB memory stick. Collect
conference materials in electronic form wherever possible, and only
take printed materials if you absolutely need it.
