Canterbury High and Beauherne Trust

the development of extended services and the Every Child Matters agenda through a flexible curriculum

The Trust opened in April 2008. Canterbury High is an all ability co-educational 11-19 Foundation School, with Sports status. It is the centre of The Canterbury Schools Sport Coordination Partnership. Beauherne is a local primary school.

  • Canterbury Christ Church University
  • Canterbury City Council
  • Pharon Independent Financial Services Ltd

The immediate benefits lie in the improved communication between partners. The fact that the school has a named contact at both the university and the city council is a major benefit. Being partners in the Trust has also meant that The Canterbury High School has become one of the main link schools for Canterbury Christ Church University.

Many local activities are coordinated through the school.

Some working sub-groups have been established based, for example, on the priorities of community involvement and community development. The Trust employs a Secretary who organises the meetings and administers the affairs of the Trust.

The three top priorities for trust activities in the next year are:

  • Curriculum development
  • Work related learning
  • Adult community involvement

“We became a trust because there was no reason not to do so. We are pleased that we took that decision. All the partners are committed to improving the life of our young people and the Trust is ensuring that we can make a difference.”

“Many of the things we have done since becoming a trust, we would have done anyway. But the status and the continued support of our partners, has given it all a permanence”

Phil Karnavas, Headteacher
