Comberton Educational Trust

What is the overall vision of your project?

To have an educational trust that is capable of overseeing the ongoing excellence of Comberton Village College and provide an organisational device to oversee future schooling development within the local area.

The role of the partners and the trustees will provide strategic input and, in some cases, specific support in the excellent provision of all schools affiliated to the trust

What successes have you had so far? (established Trusts)

A new primary school has been established through the trust in the local area. This followed an LA organised competition for the required new school.

Strong negotiations with all local feeder primary schools seem likely now to lead to a memorandum of understanding between the trust and all the local schools.

The trust looks set to oversee a new secondary provision in the local area.

A new Sixth Form has been established that will be fed by students and schools in the local area.

What challenges have you faced (are you facing) in establishing your Trust?

Engagement in an appropriate manner with established schools. Full and clear discussion over a period of time that confirms the mutual benefit of strong collaboration is the approach taken.

Who are your external partners and what will their contribution be to the Trust?

  • Wolfson College, Cambridge
  • Faculty of Education, Cambridge
  • Anglia Ruskin University
  • Villiers Park Educational Trust
  • Saffron Walden County High School

Anglia Ruskin University are providing courses and resources for student leadership development and training. They will also have a significant input in our new Sixth Form.

“This is an excellent opportunity for us to engage positively with the local education community and to provide some meaningful support to a significant local school and its ongoing development”.
